18 August '08 - ABBF Spring Season 2508

STARTING ON WEDNESDAY 20 AUGUST • NEW COMPETITIONS BEGIN!
Every Wednesday (and occasional Monday) at The Queen's Head Bar & Restaurant, Queen St, from 5pm.

There will be not one but two leagues on offer: the Stunty Stomp-Out and the Trad-Bash Trophy. We will use the 7 point system of the Greenstone Cup, divided by the number of games played. There will be a minimum of 9 games played to be eligible for play-off rounds, beginning 8th December.

Competition will run on Wednesdays, with irregular Mondays thrown into the mix for those who can't make it on Wednesdays on a regular basis, through to the 17th of December.
Both leagues are more informal than previously: no formal round-robin. The only league restriction is that after an encounter, each team must play two other league games before they can play each other again. Coaches may like to enter a team in each tournament, or they may wish to play in one of them.

Trad-Mash Trophy
The Trad-Mash Trophy is intended to allow players to experiment with development of teams and team strategies - either become more familiar with skill selection and tactics of a previous race, or try something completely different. It is quite possible to change one's mind during the season: if a team isn't working out, or is not fun enough to play, then, before November, the coach could start up a new one. Teams are chosen from LRB 5 plus 2007 rules review, but experimental teams such as Slann, Underworld and Chaos Pact are allowed (& Chris won't be there with his damnable dwarfs, nor Kyle with his rotten woodies).
Note: several of us have teams we are willing to lend out for the duration.

Stunty Stomp-Out
For the Stunty Stomp-Out, (S.L.O.G. IV) teams can be chosen from the new and improved ABBF Team Roster 2. This new roster features all teams that are available for this years Spring Season.
The point of S.L.O.G. is for the 'serious' players to get seriously twisted. In the midst of wholesale slaughter of littlies. LRB5 rules will apply, with some minor modifications. More on that shortly.

Registrations for both leagues will be open until the end of September. To register your team simply send an email with your details to Dan.

The Hard As Nails Challenge

The mighty Miner Monarchs of Mayhem, Winter Championship 2508 winners and all-time casualty leaders in the ABBF, have finally accepted the challenge issued by Corrida De Torros at the end of last season. The Dwarves are ready to take on the Bulls anytime...!

So even if you're not playing, pop on down to the Queen's Head on Wednesday to witness what promises to be a carnage fest the likes of which has never been seen before.

A long and brutal season has come to a close and we finally have (almost) all the results in... and the new ABBF Winter Champions are:

The Miner Monarchs of Mayhem

The mighty Dwarves not only racked up over 100 casualties over the course of 24 games, but they also remain yet to be beaten! Congratulations ChrisB, for showing us all how it's done... yet again.

New League(s) starting soon

That's right folks, the Spring/Summer season will not see one but two leagues run simultaneously.
We're planning to get started as soon as we have finalised all the details, so keep your eyes peeled for more info coming very soon.

We're also thinking of changing our weekly meetings to Monday, or even to have two days a week, Monday & Wednesday. We'd appreciate your thoughts on the subject, so let us know which day you would prefer.

That's it for the moment... long live Blood Bowl!!!
